While there may be no new long that receives my permission to enter my portfolio, there is no doubt that our two new longs yesterday helped to make today a very nice day. On top of those two new friends in my portfolio, another six of the remaining eight had very nice day’s also. This is a very nice way to end this horrible year of 2008 (my worst year ever with combined accounts resulting in a 15% gain for 2008 PRE-taxes). So there is no doubt in my mind that 2009 has to be better. And if 2009 isn’t the year we turn, then 2010 definitely should be. This is, of course, unless we add even more social programs that we can’t pay for and make other silly moves like raising taxes. Barring these events and a few others (don’t want to talk about them on a happy day) 2009 has to be better. One thing is for sure: one month in the market can make a big difference. For instance, at the start of December we were down to three longs and by the end of the month we had 10. We also entered December with 37 shorts and are now down to 33. Sadly, none of the shorts covered have been (except one: ATHR) a full cover since we went short before the major selloff really got underway. However, new shorts are not working and new longs are. While we do not have the volume on the major market indexes, or the nice to “hot” charts, to hint at a REAL “for-sure” bottom, we still have a short-term and sub-intermediate term rally underway and for now anything the opposite of red is very good. Stocks I am watching for future longs include: EBS ESI HEI MMSI AVAV MFE RNT SJI GXDX FCFS VSAC LHCG MAXY LCI STSI DORM UBSH JJSF PLAB JAG OPTR CTBI IAG ANV SLW FORR CHG ABX FRD MDRX PCBK BTFG CIA TOWN WSBC GB PNFP HOMB NBTB HTS AGNC EPIQ TWGP. Have a Happy New Years everyone!!!

I am very happy to see that we have two stocks that could be good possible longs tonight. CPHL and OCN are not perfect by far as both have wild EPS and slowing sales growth but the chart is never wrong until it is proven wrong and right now both look like they are ready to run higher. The BOP, volume, and price are very strong recently in both of these stocks and with each breakout. I want to remind you that these are not perfect Featured quality longs. These are stocks that have minor fundamental problems but very strong technicals. So do not go out there and put your life’s savings in either one of these stocks. Instead, continue to step into this current market cautiously as the trend may be up on the short-term but on the long-term and intermediate term it is down and on the sub-intermediate term it is lateral. So we are not in the most bullish condition to “load up” on longs yet. Continue to be careful out there and obey my cut loss rules like they were the 10 Commandants.

new speculative longs: OCN CPHL

OCN is breaking out of a base on base on base pattern (June to now), on strong volume. Cut your final loss with a close below the 7.95 level or the 50 day moving average, if the stock does not move higher immediately.

CPHL is breaking out of a tight flat five-day base, on strong volume. Cut your final loss with a close below the 11.97 level, if the stock does not move higher immediately.

The market took a whack on the head today that left us with no new longs to take under today’s sun. However, there does appear to be a very bullish condition setting up in silver and gold stocks. Besides those stocks coming off the lows on strong volume and green BOP, the futures are now starting to trend higher with Gold over the 50 and 200 day moving average. So I would definitely be watching Gold stocks for future longs in the near-term. I am not sure how long they will take to setup but I know they are moving towards proper setups in stocks like RIC, IAG, SLW, AUY, ASA, ABX, JAG, etc… . Besides Gold and Silver there are a few other stocks out there that COULD be future longs. But the way this market is looking I am just not that bullish on them UNTIL they actually setup and breakout of a pattern similar to AIPC in June or ANCI (XSI) in June and August. If Gold/Silver stocks are not our next batch of longs maybe LZR, SXCI, CHG, BPBC, OCN, AMSF, KIRK, JJSF, GB, NBTB, PW, PLAB, MTU, ROCM, TCL, CFL, ENSG, INFI, ESI, AVAV, TOWN, or MFE will be. I really miss those 1999 and 2003 (they existed in every year but a TON existed in those years) markets that produced those near-perfect to hot and perfect charts. It looks like holding cash and not taking new longs will be the call this week. We will see…

The stock market was just as quiet on a full Friday post-Christmas session as it was during a half-day pre-Christmas session. I haven’t quite seen volume be this low before on a full day but it did happen and left my two main long scans with only two stocks in them. Neither one was close to being a long but after reviewing all of my long scans I can say that we have some stocks that we should definitely watch for a breakout or bounce off the 50 day moving average with the right volume/BOP requirements. KIRK, BFBC, GB, SMG, MAXY, STSI, LZR, PW, OPTR, JAG, IAG, ANV, LORL, ROCM, MDRX, ABAT, AAI, PLAB, RIC, FRD, HSNI, HEV, AWK, SHEN, CTO, FORR, TWGP, MMSI, EPIQ, and PSMT. Although some of these stocks are still a long ways away from building a correct right side and breaking out, they are at least forming bottoms, with some forming right sides, with excellent price, volume, and BOP characteristics. Let’s hope that the stocks listed here today and listed in my longs section the past week will continue to work on themselves so we can get some strong longs like we had earlier this year in DGLY and PDO. 2008 was BY FAR the worst year for winning stocks in my ENTIRE 13 years of investing (April 1996-January 2009). As you can see by a 12 out of 13 year count, “near-perfect to perfect to HOT!!!!” charts do show up more than not. This was just a bad year for big winning stocks (2001 and 2007 were weak but not death like 2008). Thankfully, as we can see by using history of the 30s and 70s to the 00s, we will have another bull market where big winners will come out. Right now, cash is still king, until the market starts to rally on strong accumulation.

The market was up slightly on today’s Christmas Eve session. However, there was no volume and that meant only four stocks showed up in my two most important long scans. In my other side long scans that spot “hot” chart patterns before they breakout, nothing new appeared in there either. Still, I did take the time to go over all my pre-breakout scans and other Featured scans to give you a list of stocks to watch for possible moves in the future. Stocks like BFBC AMSF TCL MAXY CWT UBSH STSI ACET GB FRD LORL OPTR PLAB AAI RIC IAG MDRX VASC ESI UVSP TOWN SHEN FNF CMN ANSW BTFG AGNC AWK ACAP HTS CHL FORR QSII CAL ALK and MFE all have chart patterns that show me either potential strong bottoms or a very nice right side of a base being built. None of these charts are perfect (except MAXY) and all need more time and work. But it is still wise to know what is setting up out there before they actually breakout. Before Friday I will have a video looking at the strongest stocks that might be making bottoms in the strongest sectors out there right now. This might yield us more potential future candidates. But for now, there is nothing to do but relax and enjoy your holidays! Happy Chanukah and Merry Christmas everyone!!

Well we have another low volume selloff which could be a bullish setup if we come back from the low volume holiday weeks with a higher volume rally. However, sadly, some things are appearing during this low volume rally that has me wondering if a rally is going to happen after all. First off, DCM and TSYS continue to not be able to move higher right away after we went long. This is not how a new long should be acting. New longs should act like CSKI. The fact we are still taking the few nice patterns and that they do not work indicates we might not be done with the work on the downside. However, if we do come out of this and take off in January some of these stocks might be interesting and you might want to keep an eye on these stocks listed: VASC, UVSP, BTFG, ROCM, SXCI, OCN, LORL, ACET, HTS, AAI, STV, FRD, PLAB, ABAT, ANV, IAG, AWK, AGNC, FORR, STSI, QSII, ACM, and especially MAXY. MAXY is our first max green BOP filled, heavily accumulated, nice price action stock that we have seen since June. Hopefully, that one can be on our buy list after the holidays are over. Merry Christmas everyone!!!

It should not be any surprise that there are no new longs. It would have been nice if one or two would have shown up but since volume was so low and the market fell almost all day long it is not a shock that nothing showed up. The one great thing that happened during today’s session (well, two) was that stocks rallied hard off the lows in the last hour to take the indexes to a reasonable close and thus not make today look too ugly. The other nice note was CSKI. This new long is by far one of the prettiest new longs we have had with growing green to max green BOP, the strong accumulation, and great price action. That action in that stock, with TSYS and the rest, makes me confident that this might end up being a low volume holiday-short week pullback that could then be followed by a higher volume rally in January. Now, obviously, the big trend is very down and I don’t think chances are that high of this happening. But in the short term things are starting to look a little more bullish. However, ultimately, a lot more work needs to be done before any “hot, near-perfect, or perfect” charts setup. A complete death in IPOs doesn’t bode well for the future either. Here are some stocks that I am watching for potential longs sometime in the future. UBSH, AAON, JJSF, ACET, VASC, ANV, FRD, HTS, MAXY, IAG, AAI, PSMT, PW, UVSP, IOT, AGNC, ALK, AWK, QSII, ATHN, and MFE all have something within their patterns that I like. MAXY is the most promising. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!

Remember, there are only nine more days left to take advantage of the 25% off monthly or yearly special. I will not be running a special this large for another 12 months and then will only run it if every other financial website is. This market will turn and I guarantee (just look at my Past Big Winners) that you will not want to miss the stocks I will be going long when that turn comes.

The mixed session left the indexes basically not up or down 1% but it did produce a big surge in volume as options expiration hit the tape. That allowed a few stocks to produce some nice charts today. One of those is a speculative small bank stock. But Gold and Platinum members know that I have had my eye on this one for about a month now as it held up better than the rest and was stronger looking than most. The speculative Featured long that I am adding to gave me a partial sell signal yesterday as the stock did not move higher immediately after I went long a couple of days ago and more importantly volume picked up a tad from the day before and the stock lost its green BOP as it turned yellow. However, today, TSYS rebounded right back putting in a very bullish intraday session on very strong volume with BOP going right back to green. If TSYS can continue to climb and BOP can increase to max green like in May we could get a very bullish explosive move from this stock. Other stocks that I have my eyes on for future longs are ANSW, CIA, CRD.b, QSII, CWT, CMTL, JJSF, AAON, AIPC, ACET, IOT, PSMT, CFL, HITT, HTS, and MAXY. Cash is still king but don’t be afraid to wade carefully back into the long waters. You know where to cut your losses.

new speculative long: TCBK

TCBK is breaking out of a nice cup base on base pattern and bouncing off the 50 day moving average, on very strong volume with a large increase in green BOP. Cut your final loss with a close below the 50 day moving average, if the stock does not move higher immediately

adding to existing speculative Featured long: TSYS

TSYS is breaking out of a cup with handle pattern, on very strong volume and green BOP. Cut your final loss with a close below the 50 day moving average, if the stock does not move higher immediately.

The good news about today’s session is that our new long was up 6% today while the market fell around 2% today. So that 8% outperformance is a bit of a comfort to the fact that the market can get absolutely no juice going to the upside. Redemptions are running high in funds slightly down for the year and down major for the year. Even some funds up for the year are seeing redemptions. The fact is that people need money and when they need money to eat they certainly are not going to buy stocks. Still, we do have seven longs and all of them held in well today, minus TSYS that needs to have some taken off. Losing the green BOP and selling off right after we go long is not the right way for a long to act. In this market we need to see immediate confirmation the next few days. There are at least a FEW stocks still on my radar for possible future longs. The sad news is that a lot of these names are new because the old names we were watching for possible future longs have all been ruined (even COGT with it losing green BOP). My watchlist has ANSW, ASTM, AVAV, SQNM, PW, HMSY, CFL, ERII, HTS, CAL, FORR, and INSU on it. I hope one of these can turn into a DGLY, PDO from earlier this year or a AIPC from this summer that was completely missed by TCNet since they don’t have OTCBB stocks. Thanks TCNet!!

It is nice to see a few stocks show up as possible future longs again after just losing a lot of the stocks that were looking strong. Stocks that I have on the radar as possible future longs sometime soon include TCBK, ANSW, ORH, WPP, PW, AIPC, AWK, CFL, HTS, HITT, ACM, QSII, PSMT, RMBS, MAXY, IAG, FRD, CMN, and SLW. All of these stock have strong starts and are either building bottoms or right side of bases that we all need to watch for possible future longs if this low volume rally does continue to move higher. If volume comes in to the rally it would be a lot more healthy than what we have now. But at this point in this market I will take whatever we can get. There is no way that I am investing a lot of money in any long right now, until I see a market rally on strong volume and/or top Featured stocks setup and breakout of beautiful bases. When this happens I will be ready to go full margin long. But that probably isn’t going to happen any time soon so I must continue to urge caution on the new longs that you take. Be careful out there and even though the Dollar is getting killed in the currency market, it is still better to be in cash and lose a little buying power than take a massive loss in a stock like FHC. I know some that jumped the gun too early. They are paying for it now after yesterday. Cash is still king.

new long position: LOPE

LOPE is breaking out of a cup base, on average volume. Cut your final loss with a close below the 13.52 level, if the stock does not move higher immediately.
